First aid in Mexico is not an important thing to know for most of people; in first world countries it is as important as to have a degrre, but here we think it is a formation only to have knowledge by doctors or nurses, but not it is a life saving knowledge.
When I was twenty, I was invited to a fifteenth birthday party;and when everyone was having supper, suddenly, in one of the tables, a man began to made a lot of noise and tapping on the table. At first I was not aware of what was happening, I thought he was giving a show due to his drunknees, but then when I saw him, I remembered the trainning my brother had given me, because I recognized the universal asphyxia, moments ago he was laughing while eating and now he was choking with a litle piece of bread.
My brother had told me many times that it was important to learn, first aid. But for a reason or another I did not want to go to a course or that kind of stuff so I told him to teach me; now, I can say, it is not important to know that, it is essential in everyone's education have at least a basic first aid course. Taking the most basic course can change the balance between a death and life situation.
I would not say I saved that man's life but at least I helped him a lot applying the airways' desobstruction manuver I learnt from my brother and in subsequent courses.
I have to say I had not any experience witha real life scenario before but I had good and solid theorical knowledges; Knowing first aid make me feel a little more confident to help poeple in everyday life.
